I'm pretty excited about
this book (
The Death of American Virtue: Clinton vs. Starr, by Ken Gormley)—a complete history of the
Ken Starr investigation. It's not an issue that's near the top of my reading list, but I am very glad to see it's getting (in the words of yesterday's Post
review) a "restrained, fair-minded, soup-to-nuts" telling. I was too young to really appreciate how outrageous all of this was when it happened, but books like this (
and Jeffrey Toobin's) help show just what a sea change this scandal marked in the life of American politics and political journalism. In hindsight, it's hard to believe it actually happened. Here's the Times
review as well.
